This Tuesday March 9th Boro' host Bedford Town
in the Zamaretto Premier Division, hoping to make up for the defeat we suffered
on our travels to The Eyrie Stadium in October. Two goals were enough for The
Eagles on that occasion, with a consolation strike from Chris Dillon not
proving good enough to get a share of the points.
On Saturday we continued our excellent home form
this season with a 2-0 win against Evesham, with Lee Moore and Chris Dillon
finding the target in front of an excellent crowd of 844, while Bedford were on
the wrong end of a 2-0 score line at in form Warwickshire rivals Leamington.
Despite their victory over us earlier in the
season, Bedford are hovering precariously above the drop zone in 18th position,
having won just 7 of their 28 fixtures this season- 3 of these on their
travels, and suffering 14 defeats. Boro will again be hoping to get amongst the
goals, with The Eagles having the third worse defensive record in the league,
shipping over 2 goals per game having conceded 57 goals in just 28 games.
Whilst Darren Acton, Stuart Pierpoint, Guy Hadland
and Gareth Dean have helped Boro' to conceded the fewest goals in the division
this season, they will again need to be on their toes as Bedford marksmen Ian
Draycott will provide a big threat, having scored 15 league goals already this
season, one more than our own in form Chris Dillon.
Having won our 3 previous home games 2-0, 5-0, and
3-1, whilst Bedford have lost their last 3 away games 2-0, 5-1, and 3-0, it is
fair to say we go into this game as clear favourites. A win will be essential
in keeping our playoff and promotion hopes alive ahead of a tricky trip to
second placed Brackley Town this Saturday.
