Girls Interactive Gym Programme
Particip8 began in November 2010 and over a 40 week period will have the involvement from thousands of local children. The Foundation worked with forty schools, each of which was offered the opportunity to partake in a variety of multi sport activity ranging from football to dance. This initiative is the only one of its kind within a twenty mile radius.
After spending a five week period in the interactive gym; equipped with interactive dance mats and sports walls, each school then received a further five weeks of after-school provision working on the school campus. This fantastic programme has provided many local school children with the opportunity to increase activity levels and have fun at the same time in a creative and innovative way.
The outstanding success of the Particip8 programme has led to it being used as a national example by Sport England to promote their Sportsmatch funding initiative. Nuneaton Town Community Foundation General Manager, Steve Farmer said “It’s fair to say that our programme has been an absolute revelation. Our Sportsmatch application has helped us to provide girls aged 7-16 with an opportunity to experience sport in a fun environment. We have had massive success in signposting participants to local clubs and dance schools to partake in activities that were unfamiliar weeks earlier. If we judge the overall success of the programme on the number of smiles witnessed as they leave our sessions, then we have a winner for sure.”
