Young Boro overcome Solihull Moors challenge...
THE BORO youngsters made progress in the FA Youth Cup with an excellent 2-0 win at Solihull Moors in the second qualifying round on Thursday evening.
Second half goals from Harry Freestone and Ryan Richmond gave us a deserved victory and left Academy Manager, Liam O’Neill, beaming.
“I am over the moon for the boys,” he said. “We had to show real character throughout the 90 minutes.
“We were not really at it during the first half; I think it’s fair to say that Solihull were the better side and possibly could have put the tie to bed by the break.
“But that’s football and after we rode our luck at times, we changed things around a bit at the break and introduced Michael Tweed.
“We took the game to them straight after the restart and it set the tone for what was to come. We started to land on more second-balls and looked like we had more of an edge to our play, especially on the counter-attack.
“I asked for a reaction at half-time and got it in the second half. It was a great win for us in the end against a good side; we got lucky at times, but sometimes you need that.
“There are lessons for us to learn, but we look forward to taking our place in the next round.”
