Nuneaton Town 4-1 Tamworth

2 months ago By OL 2

Boro defeated local rivals Tamworth in impressive style on Boxing Day's lunchtime clash.

Victory saw Nuneaton bouce back emphatically from defeat at Kidderminster just three days ago, as they struck four times in the opening 45 minutes.

Nuneaton started as they meant to go on, stifling their opponents from the word go. Daniel Nti caused early problems with a number of runs down the right, but nobody was able to connect to his dangerous ball across the area.

But Boro kept pushing their rivals and took the lead in the 11th minute. Midfielder Tom Elliott collected a loose ball on the edge of the area and set himself before rifling low beyond the goalkeeper at the near post.

In the mood for a second Jordan Nicholson added just that only ten minutes later. It was again a Nti cross that caused problems, but this time Nicholson met the delivery and clipped home from close range over Dan Jezeph in the Tamworth goal.

Dean Lyness was still at red alert when he superbly pushed a Luke Jones round the post, but this proved a one off in a dominant first half showing.

Top Scorer Ashley Chambers was next to strike as he fired a quick fire double to put the game beyond Tamworth inside the opening period.

The third came as the frontman guided a Nicholson cross into the far corner with the smallest of touches, before adding a fourth more emphatically.

Nti who was a persistent threat out wide centred allowing Chambers to volley home first time.

Not content with just four, captain Ryan Beswick fired just wide, Nicholson was denied from close range and James Ferry struck an effort over as he hunted his first goal in Boro colours.

After the break Ferry again came close to scoring as Boro sought to continue their first half superiority. But Lyness again had to be sharp when Aman Verma headed goal wards at the near post from a corner.

The second half saw a steady of flow of substitutions and Boro's tempo was somewhat reduced after their flying start, with Tamworth pulling a goal back. The unfortunate Jon Ashton turning a cross into his own net.

But this was not to deter the Boro as they comfortably saw out the remaining 17 minutes to secure the three points on Boxing Day.

Boro head to Tamworth on New Years Day seeking to build upon this afternoons success.
