The best way to keep up to date with Nuneaton Town FC

PREVIEW: Stockport County (a)

1 month ago By OL 2

We look ahead to tomorrow's match...

Nuneaton Town face the tough task of a trip to Edgeley Park on Tuesday to face Stockport County, a side that possess one of the divisions best home records. Only the top four sides in the league have been better on their own turf this season with just Kidderminster and Harrogate scoring more goals at home than Stockport's impressive total of 31 in 14 games. 'The Hatters' are also stingy at the back when it comes to defending Edgeley Park, conceding just 14 times and averaging two points a game at home.

Jason Oswell is the dangerman for County, his 20 goals are joint second best in the league this season, though he hasn't found the back of the net in his last six matches. Matty Warburton has chipped in with 11 strikes, and James Ball has five. Stockport's squad features former Republic of Ireland international and Boro' defender, Stephen O'Halloran, currently in his second spell at the club.

Boro' make the trip on the back of a five game unbeaten streak which includes their third away win of the season, at Spennymoor Town on Saturday. Stockport's only home defeats this season came in back-to-back games with Kidderminster Harriers and Blyth Spartans in October.

The previous meeting between the two sides ended in a 3-1 win for the visitors at LDJ Solicitors Stadium, a match that came less than 24 hours after Tommy Wright left to take charge at Darlington. Oswell opened the scoring that day with Ball adding the third before Daniel Nti scored a late consolation. Exodus Geohaghon was sent off in injury time before leaving the club.

Nuneaton's recent results against 'The Hatters' don't impress, with just one win in the previous seven, dating back to 2012. Then again, Stockport have only been victorious twice in that span, with four consecutive 1-1 draws in the middle of those wins. County's most recent game saw them beat their near-neighbours FC United of Manchester 1-0 at Broadhurst Park on Saturday.

Tuesday will be a stiff test for the Boro' as they play the first of four games in the space of 11 days, three of them away from the comfort of the LDJ Solicitors Stadium. Can they keep their run going, or will Stockport's home form see them to victory?
