Nuneaton Town 1 Lowestoft Town 0

Saturday 26th March, 2016;

Nuneaton's win against Lowestoft - coupled with results elsewhere - cancelled out a potential three point deduction from the Vanarama National League North.

The three points moved Boro back into the top five places and ensured that Kevin Wilson and his side were back in control of their own fate this season.

With the wind swirling around the A1 Gas Force Arena the game matched the conditions, neither side managing to put together a spell of possession, neither side managing to build up any sort of momentum.

Only a snap shot from Joe Ironside on the edge of the box and a near-post toe-poke from new signing Vamara Sanogo gave Lowestoft anything to worry about during an uneventful first half.

The second was better luckily for those braving the conditions.
.
Boro did not come out all guns blazing after the restart, it was more a gradual increasing of pressure that led to the breakthrough in the 62nd minute.

It came from another new-signing, Tom Elliott, who was calmness personified as he picked up a pass from Elliott Whitehouse and poked the ball past keeper Ben Killip and into the back of the net.

Unfortunately for the home side the goal came at the same time that the worst of the weather arrived. The rain lashing down - coupled with the wind - turned the game into a battle of attrition and not quality.

That suited the home side more as they had the lead, a lead that could have stretched when Elliott Whitehouse sent a superb shot towards the bottom corner when well placed in the box - somehow Killip kept it out though.

It was to be the last real chance of what was a poor game, but one the Boro did what they had to in - take the three points and put themselves right back in the play-off hunt.
