Brackley Town 1 Nuneaton Town 0 (15.08.2017)
Another narrow 1-0 reverse...
BORO slipped to another narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of League leaders, Brackley Town.
The home side started the game with real purpose with Glenn Walker and Adam Walker in particular both causing early problems.
It was as Boro were starting to see more of the ball that they fell behind on 11 minutes when Ellis Myles found the net from distance with a sweet strike that gave Dean Lyness
At the other end, a free-kick for Boro was delivered onto the head of skipper, Ryan Beswick
, but his effort was deflected just wide of the target.
There was a good tempo to the game with both sides seeing their fair share of the ball, although clear-cut chances were at a premium at either end.
As the half went on, Boro were showing good pace on the break and a neat move involving Ashley Chambers
, Jordan Nicholson
and Billy Daniels
ended with us winning a corner which was headed just over by Brad Gascoigne.
Right on the stroke of half-time, some good work from James Armson saw him carved out a chance for Adam Walker who was denied by a smart save from Lyness as we went in at the break trailing by one goal.
There was an early chance for Boro at the start of the second period but the ball flashed just wide by Nicholson.
It was to signal a good spell of early possession for Boro with Chambers at the heart of it all.
A great double save from Lyness kept us in it as firstly he pushed out an effort from Armson who some great skill to skip past several challenges before getting in his strike before Lee Ndlovu’s follow-up was clawed away.
Whilst there wasn’t the fluency of the opening period, Boro were posing questions for the home side and Chambers went close with a strike from distance.
With time running out, Lyness was called into action to deny the lively Armson and Steve Diggin in quick succession.
A positive run from Chambers ended with his strike gathered by the ‘keeper before a sharp break by the hosts ended with Matt Lowe cutting inside and seeing his curling effort hit the woodwork.
Despite our best efforts, we couldn’t find an equaliser as we slipped to another narrow 1-0 defeat.
