Nuneaton Town Youth 3 Ellesmere Rangers 0

Match report courtesy of Chris Bird;

Nuneaton Town youth team’s win against Ellesmere Rangers on Monday night was enough to make them league champions of the Midland Floodlit Northern Premier Division for the second consecutive season after winning the Eastern Division last season.

It took Nuneaton just 15 minutes to take the lead after a thunderous effort from Reid Kearns flew perfectly into the top corner of the Ellesmere goal, which left the keeper with no chance. Nuneaton, knowing a draw would be enough to win the league, never let Ellesmere settle on the ball, with Kearns, Bird and King working tirelessly to close down their midfield players. In the 38th minute, Nuneaton made the score 2-0 when Matt Bird reached the by-line and produced a good low cross to Parrott who was waiting at the back post and made no mistake in stroking the ball home from 6 yards out. H/T 2-0.

The second half was all about protecting the 2-0 lead. Some excellent defending from Willis, Harrison, Kavanagh and Abdul kept Ellesmere from testing Richards in the Nuneaton goal. Nuneaton continued to work hard all over the pitch whilst Ryan Ball and Theo Lobel-Graves tormented the Ellesmere defenders throughout. Nuneaton added to the score line again in the 75th minute when Matt Bird headed well into the roof of the net from a Reid Kearns corner. This secured the 3 points for Nuneaton but Ellesmere continued to attack forcing Nuneaton to defend until the final whistle. Cadby, Cartwright and Thorpe replaced Abdul, Ball and Lobel-Graves and this helped Nuneaton to see the game home with another clean sheet, making the final score 3-0.

We wish Ellesmere all the best as they fight for the runners-up position with Wulfrunians.

Nuneaton Town youth celebrated their win with champagne after the game to conclude what has proved to be a very competitive league. On a final note, this will be my final report of the season although we have one league game away to Ellesmere next Thursday. I would like to say a huge thank you to all of our sponsors and those who help with the every-day running of the team. Also I would like to thank all of the parents and congratulate all of the players on what has been a fantastic season and achievement over our two seasons competing in the Floodlit League. Lastly, we would like to say a special thank you to the Supporters Co-operative for their continued support over the last 2 seasons, it has been very much appreciated by everyone involved with the youth team.
