Tamworth 2-0 Nuneaton Town

By

Nuneaton Town fell to defeat at Tamworth by two goals to nil.

Boro were beaten on New Years Day as local rivals Tamworth exacted revenge following Boxing Day’s victory for Boro.

However it proved to be a different story as 2018 begun with disappointment as Boro conceded twice in the first half from which they failed to recover.

The encounter began slowly in what was a cagey opening, with both sides limiting one another to marginal opportunities.

Dean Lyness was untested in the Boro goal, whilst Billy Daniels displayed endeavour before firing off target at the other end.

However just before the half hour mark Tamworth broke the deadlock. A swift break forward allowed forward Connor Taylor the opportunity to strike. One he took, firing low across goal beating Lyness to open the scoring.

Nuneaton sought to swiftly draw level and Jordan Nicholson came close with a dangerous left footed effort.

But unfortunately for Boro they found themselves two behind just moments later.

An original Tamworth attack was only half cleared allowing winger Callum Powell to curl home from inside the area.

Again Boro attempted to instantly hit back but even a dangerous Daniel Nti centre and a neat free kick routine failed to come to fruition.

Into the second 45 Boro came within inches of pulling a goal back when defender Brad Gascoigne met a corner, prodding wide on the stretch.

Kyle McFarlane was next to threaten but his inviting low cross evaded everyone as it raced away from the goal.

Powell came close to adding a third for the hosts, but it was Boro who had the best of the second half.

However they failed to convert from a number of promising openings, as the home side saw out the victory thanks to there first half double.

Nuneaton are back in action on Saturday as they welcome Brackley Town to the LDJ Solicitors Stadium.
